Post #100 - Why use PPC?
For post #100, my first milestone, I wanted to talk generally about PPC (pay per click).  If you are a PPC veteran, this post isn't for you, maybe post #1,000 will hold a tip that will make you a millionaire!

PPC is one of the many ways of advertising online, so why should you choose to use it?  If someone were to ask me, "Why should I use PPC?", my first inclination is to say, "price".  PPC is indeed inexpensive because you can choose how much you want to spend per visitor.  On the other hand, if you want to spend less, you can just lower your maximum bid price.  PPC is inexpensive, but that isn't the main reason you should try PPC.

PPC is also a great way to brand your identity.  With PPC, you should your advertisement and keywords to more people than you actually pay for.  It would be like a radio station saying, "Ads for July are $400, but we only want to charge you $200."  Free advertising for you.  With PPC, you get free advertising whenever someone doesn't click your ad after reading it.  PPC is definitely great for branding, but that isn't my favorite reason to use PPC either.

PPC, for my money, is the absolute best way to advertise because of an often overlooked reason, customers.  With PPC you can buy as many (most keywords can supply more customers than you can afford) customers as you want.  PPC is different from every other form of advertising because you can essentially buy leads at your prices when you want them.  What other form of advertising can give you that much flexibility?

PPC is a unique advertising method.  If you have never tried it, now is a great time to start.  You can start by yourself or you can hire someone like me, a consultant, to manage your campaign for you.  You would just set the amount of money you want to spend, then talk to your consultant to see what results you can expect.

Either way, if you aren't advertising with PPC you are missing out!

Branding is for cattle. :)

Seriously though... small businesses (and even direct marketers that do 50 mil a year) don't benefit from text ad "branding" that doesn't result in a click.

But Ebay and Amazon do, which is why they bid on everything.

You're right, I just saw an ad for a used shovel that led to eBay! Does eBay and Amazon really need any more branding? They are household names, and everyone knows what they both do.
