Obviously for SEO there are a million blogs that talk about SEO and how to effectively design a site and a page for search engines, but how many are there that give you real advice about PPC. Marc Quarles and Brad Geddes and two of the only ones that I know of. So I'll list myselft as number 3!
When designing a page for SEO you want to have keywords, more text than code, targetted anchor text on related pages, etc.
When designing for PPC you need to think completely different.
For PPC landing pages to be successful remember these tips:
1. On-page Keywords don't matter.
You are paying for each individual visitor, you don't need to worry about having the correct text keywords, nor do you have to think about how much code is on your page. In fact, you could have an entire flash page that doesn't have any text and you should still see the results. They only thing you might need to watch your AdWords quality score.
2. Layout is most important.
When crafting a landing page for PPC, the only thing you want out of people is for them to click a link or fill out a form. In order to get them to do that, make it easy and quick. If the form is 3 pages long, or they have to go to their filing cabinet to look up information, you are going to lose a sale.
If there is a lot of information that is "Optional", that will cause you to lose sales as well. "Optional" information is obviously not that important and it increases the length of the sign up form. Keeping that form short and sweet is more important that collecting information.
