The question you probably ask youself is, "Why did they target me and my site or company for click fraud?" I know because that is what I wondered as well. Why me?
Well, the reason they probably chose you is because of the market you were in. It usually isn't personal at all. I was in the wrong industry at the wrong time. For me, it was promoting a local affiliate that was mortgage related about 2 years ago. At this time, mortgage was red hot and everyone was in it. It was hard work to stay ahead of the curve and to do that I was advertising everywhere, including the content network.
I have heard stories of revenge click fraud, but that is very minimal. Click fraudsters make good money defrauding people and that is why they do it.
They chose you, not personally, but because you are in an industry that pays well, and isn't monitored heavily (like mortage and loans currently).
What can you do? Get out of that industry or track your stats and watch for anything abnormal.
Good luck catching the bad guys!
