As the Technorati graph below shows, a year ago there was less than 1 post per day that mentioned click fraud. Today we have an average of about 5-7 posts per day.
That is a 500% increase in people talking about click fraud when compared to six months ago. What has click fraud increased 500% in the last 6 months? Profitability.
It is extremely profitable to cheat advertisers and search engines out of money. However, this has come back to bite many people who have spent time and money getting a click fraud campaign launched just to have their account terminated before they ever get a check. For advertisers this is a great situation and I'm glad that the PPC companies are implementing more and more security measures to combat click fraud.
So is click fraud really up 500%? If bloggers feeling like they are getting cheated is any indication I will have to say yes!
